About the Conference
“Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Real Impact for the Real World” is the volunteer management conference presented by AL!VE, Better Impact, and VMPC (Volunteer Management Professionals of Canada). Our current streaming event will consist of four 60 minute segments consisting of a 20 minute presentation followed by moderated discussion with the other presenters (think Ted talk meets late night TV), including responding to questions from the audience.
This unique event will broadcast live on two separate days, October 19 and 20, 2021. You may register for the day and time zone that works best for your local group, once registration is available later this year.
The broadcast will be streamed live to more than 50 remote locations in the United States and Canada, with the likelihood of an audience of 1000 or more. One of the goals of this event is to provide quality, high level professional development events in local areas where access and resources may be limited to local associations of volunteer engagement professionals, volunteer centers, or other entities with an interest in professional development for those who engage volunteers.
How does it work?
Same as before, your local group pays a connection fee and arranges for a location (with a screen, speakers, and space for an audience, meals and a local facilitator to guide local discussion). You can charge your local attendees whatever price you choose. It could be a free event, or charge a fee you determine per person and make some profit for your local network.

Facilitator Training sessions: Same content for each session. We will review the day’s schedule, facilitator role, and tips for facilitating in person or virtually and facilitating discussions that may be outside of comfort zones.

About Breauna:
Breauna Dorelus is the Founder and Chief Cause Consultant at Connecting the Cause, a consultancy
dedicated to helping volunteers and those that lead them identify and uproot harmful volunteer
practices specifically towards Black and brown communities. She is an advocate for voices of color to
be heard, recognized and valued in the service and volunteerism sector and believes in keeping the
community centered in all aspects of the volunteer process. Breauna’s work is built on the principle that
transformational service must help instead of harm.
Starting her decade plus stint in the nonprofit sector as an AmeriCorps member, she has continuously
held positions in volunteer engagement, program creation, and spearheading community volunteer
initiatives in the areas of humanitarian aid, refugee resettlement, and ministry. She received her
Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from Georgia Southern University, and her Master’s in
Public Administration with a concentration in Nonprofit Management from Georgia State University
(Summa Cum Laude).
About Sue:
Sue is the President of Sue Carter Kahl Consulting and has 25 years of experience in the nonprofit and
philanthropic sectors. Her work is infused with lessons learned as a nonprofit executive and staff
member, volunteer, and researcher. She is passionate about bridging theory and practice in
volunteerism. Her current focus is on identifying overlooked dynamics within service and translating
research into practitioner-friendly resources such as workshops or blogs at VolunteerCommons.com.
Sue has a PhD in Leadership Studies, a Master’s in Social Work, and a certificate in Nonprofit
Management. She serves as a volunteer coach for nonprofit executives through the Fieldstone
Leadership Network and spends her free time hiking, gardening, and reading.
About Sean:
Sean Kreyling is a career K-12 educator and social impact consultant.
Sean speaks four languages, serves on the board of legal justice non-profit, is an accomplished world
language educator, and partners with schools in need of world language curriculum and instruction.
Sean has designed and implemented trainings on topics including cultural competence, edtech, special
education, and culturally responsive pedagogy. His degrees include Organizational Leadership (The
Pennsylvania State University) and Educational Leadership, Reggio Emilia Approach (Antioch
University). He begins his EdD in Educational & Professional Practice: Multicultural & Antiracist
Education this spring.
About Tanya:
Tanya Hannah Rumble, CFRE is a fundraising leader who has raised millions for some of Canada’s
largest charities including Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, McMaster
University and now Ryerson University. Tanya has developed highly effective volunteer fundraising
and leadership volunteer committees in all her roles in the NFP sector including overseeing 200
leadership volunteers and 10,000 day-of volunteers for the annual CIBC Run for the Cure. Tanya is
passionate about equity, diversity and inclusion; and power and privilege and how these intersect with
philanthropy. She is deeply engaged in transforming the philanthropic sector as a leadership volunteer
in the sector, intrepreneur in the organizations where she works and governs, as a writer and speaker in
the fundraising sector, and as a mentor. Tanya holds an Honours Bachelor or Arts in Political Science
from McMaster, earned a Masters Certificate at NYU and also holds numerous certifications and
specialized training. Tanya is naturally inquisitive and a lifelong learner both informally and formally:
she is a graduate of the 2017 Association of Fundraising Professionals Inclusion and Philanthropy
Fellowship, and 2010 DiverseCity Fellowship. Tanya is a new mom, a voracious consumer of
podcasts, a dedicated urbanist taking advantage of leading Jane’s Walks’ to learn more about her
community, and a baking enthusiast. Pre-COVID she also enjoyed international travel. Tanya
gratefully acknowledges the traditional territories of the Mississauga and Haudenosaunee nations,
whose traditional territory she lives and works with her husband and young son.
